CICLI MATTIO: la nostra storia

March 23, 1996: while Gabriele Colombo was winning the Milan-Sanremo with his Bianchi bicycle, Cicli Mattio was born in Piasco, a small bicycle shop. Silvio, a young car mechanic, chose to follow his great passion for cycling and, with a pinch of madness that is always needed on these occasions, to open his own business.

“Everything was different from today 25 years ago…” - comments Silvio.
The brands dealt with at the time were Specialized and Fondriest bikes, Shimano components and Castelli clothing. He still remembers the first sale representatives he met, Massimo and Valter, then Ugo and Gabriele.
The shop was simple, the bathroom was outside and in winter the water always froze... but Silvio's great passion allowed him to grow more and more, to become Cicli Mattio, a structured and constantly evolving reality which today counts 25 employees and countless bicycles sold every year.

But how many things have changed since then…

He still remembers the first bicycle sold to Mr. Luciano, a steel Fondriest mounted Campagnolo Veloce, purchased for his son Massimo who rode for Team Vigor (the sports club born under the "wing" of Cicli Mattio, Silvio and other passionate friends).

He remembers the first invoice received from Wilier for a Campagnolo cassette.

“How many wheels have I assembled… I brought home rims, spokes, hubs and nipples and in the evening in front of the TV I stitched the wheels together with the help of my wife (how much she loved me...) then I got up early in the morning and finished them before starting the work day in the shop… in a short time I really became a master at assembling them!"

"Then some friends who were passionate about cycling started helping me: Davide, Francesco, Guido and Giovanni, who later became a partner.” Silvio recalls.

It was the era of the fax, of the landline telephone. No pc, mobile phone, electronic billing, server,…
Everything was done in a very simple way, but with a lot of passion and desire to grow!

Over the years, other brands such as Bianchi, Santa Cruz, Merlin and many others have arrived.

The staff has also become increasingly numerous, currently counting 25 employees led by Silvio and Giorgio, and is divided between the shop, workshop, offices and warehouse.

Around 2005 it made its first appeareance online and today Cicli Mattio can claim to be an affirmed e-commerce recognized and appreciated by its customers/cyclists all over the world. Approximately 800 parcels are shipped every month and the team follows every step of the online sale, from the consultancy service via ticket, to the packaging and shipment. Since May 2021, the warehouse system has been managed by an advanced management software that controls incoming and outgoing material. A lot of investment has been made to better organize the goods, so three modern rotating machines have been installed for spare parts and other small accessories.

Even that of the workshop is a very important service, the mechanics of Cicli Mattio are continuously trained and updated to be competent and professional and to be able to respond to any request for intervention and maintenance. Approximately 5000 bicycles are processed every year in the workshop!
