Bike disc brakes

Bike brake discs are components of the bicycle that are essential to ensure power and modulation in braking. Made up of a steel braking surface, an aluminum “spider” (sometimes with titanium or carbon elements) and a hub mounting system, they can be mounted with six-bolt technology or the more modern Direct Mount (Center Lock) system.

The choice of diameter directly affects performance and control: larger diameters (200-220 mm) offer greater power and heat dissipation, ideal for MTB and e-bikes that require more braking power, while 140-160 mm rotors balance weight and precision, perfect for road bikes and XC. There are also “floating” versions or with internal cooling structures to improve thermal dispersion during long descents where the brakes are always active.

Careful maintenance is undoubtedly crucial: it is necessary to replace the disc when the thickness falls below the 1.5-1.8 mm indicated by the manufacturer, clean it regularly to avoid contamination (e.g. fingerprints) and use the appropriate tools (Torx T25 or Center Lock extractor) for a correct and secure mounting.
