Staying hydrated while cycling is very important, in every season and under all conditions. A water bottle is an essential item to always carry with you, as it allows you to have a reserve of water or mineral salts to face a race, training session, or weekend ride. If a cyclist drinks too little or too late compared to their needs, it could compromise their performance and send their body into a "crisis."
There are many models of cycling water bottles, but some fundamental requirements are undoubtedly practicality, lightness, capacity, and the ability to maintain temperature. How to choose a bicycle water bottle
When choosing the right cycling water bottle, we recommend considering several aspects, including:
- Capacity: common sizes include 500ml, 750ml, and 900ml. Material: cycling bottles come in plastic, steel, or aluminum.
- The material affects the product’s durability, resistance, and weight.
- Practicality: cyclists prefer bottles that are lightweight, easy to handle, and can be used and stored in the bottle cage effortlessly, without wasting energy.
There is also a wide variety of designs, shapes, and colors to suit your personal preferences.
We can’t forget to mention tool bottles, which allow you to carry Allen keys and multi-tools for quick bike "first aid" on the go.
How to wash your bike water bottle
You can wash a thermal water bottle in the dishwasher if you find the symbol indicating it is dishwasher-safe (the symbol consists of a stylized glass and fork) at the bottom of the product. If present, you can place the bottle upside down and remove the gasket from the cap before washing. Alternatively, hand washing is perhaps the most common method and often preferred by cyclists: we recommend using warm water, pouring some into the bottle with a few drops of dish soap, closing the cap, and shaking. You can also make the process easier by using a bottle brush, specifically designed for cleaning bottles and baby bottles, which you can find in stores.
In both cases, once the bottle is thoroughly cleaned, it's important to rinse it carefully to remove all soap residues.
Don’t forget to also clean the cap and pay particular attention to the threading, as germs and bacteria can easily accumulate there!
